Quotes to keep you Unhurriedly Productive

7th Jul 2022

As you’ll have observed, one of the big themes I write about is about being unhurried. Truth be told, I struggle as much as the next person on crafting an unhurried rhythm to my days. We’re living in a society that, on the surface at least, values speed and ‘more’ over slowness and ‘enough’.

Yet as I scratch beneath the surface, I find people yearning for a slower pace of life. Including me.

One tool I use to help me to sustain a pace that works for me is in the power of a quote. I try to pay attention to wisdom where I find it. Here are some quotes on leading an unhurried life that I keep coming back to. I hope they help you to stop and reflect too:

On Busyness:

Busy is not the point. Seth Godin

It is not enough to be busy; so are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about? Henry David Thoreau

Busy is a decision. Debbie Millman

On Enough:

Nothing is enough for the man for whom enough is too little. Epicurus

On Slowing Down:

Everything will work again if you unplug it and plug it in again, including you. Anne Lamott

The prize doesn’t go to the fastest guy. It goes to the guy who slows down the least. Rich Roll

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. Desiderata

On Playing the Long Game:

You have the watches. We have the time. Afghan saying.

I’m curious. What are your go-to quotes when it comes to being unhurried?
